Hammond's girls soccer team managed only three goals in its fTC last three regular-season games after scoring four or more goals in six of the team's first nine contests.

But the top-ranked and top-seeded Bears (12-1) broke their scoring drought in a Class 2A-1A, Region I semifinal yesterday, routing No. 4 Patapsco, 12-1. Bears strikers Samantha Andersch and Kisha Jett had hat tricks.

Before three minutes elapsed off the clock, Hammond, the defending 2A-1A state champions, already had a 2-0 lead on goals from Jett and striker Natalie Serianni. In the next 14 minutes, the Bears extended their lead to 4-0, with goals again by Jett and Serianni.

"We wanted to get some goals quickly," Hammond coach Dave Guetler said. "Once we got four, I thought that was the game."
