Officer injures his knee in fight with suspect

An Eastern District police officer was injured Monday morning during a fight with a drunken driving suspect who allegedly resisted arrest.

A police report said Officer Brian Smith stopped the suspect at Chestnut Avenue and Magnolia Road in Pasadena at about 2 a.m. and tried to handcuff him.

The man allegedly became violent and pushed Officer Smith to the ground. The officer said in his report that he injured his right knee trying to subdue the suspect.

Steven Johansen 3rd, 24, of the 700 block of 139th St., Ocean City, was charged with assault, resisting arrest, drunken driving, numerous traffic violations and theft in connection with a purse found in the man's back pocket.
