Man tries to enter woman's car at traffic light in Scaggsville

Howard County police are investigating a 23-year-old Laurel woman's report that a man tried to enter her Jeep Cherokee as she sat at a red light in Scaggsville Monday night.

The woman told police that about 7:50 p.m. she was in her 1991 Jeep Cherokee stopped at a red light at routes 29 and 216 when a man approached and attempted to get in.

When she first heard the car door rattling, she thought it was her 3-year-old playing with the door, police said. But when she turned, she saw a man trying to open her locked driver's door, police said.

The man was unable to get in the car and the woman drove through the red light, police said.

The man is described as black, in his 20s, 5-foot-9, with a medium build, short black hair and cleanshaven. He was wearing a bright multicolored jacket, police said.
