1 person killed, 2 others injured in 2-car crash

A 24-year-old Ellicott City man was killed Monday afternoon and two others were injured after a Datsun 200-SX ran a red light near Old Columbia Pike and collided with their car, smashing it against a light pole, county police said.

Killed in the 1:24 p.m. accident was Hung Duong Duc Luu, of the 7800 block of Field Stone Court, police said. He was pronounced dead at St. Agnes Hospital at 4:29 p.m. Monday, police said.

Mr. Luu was a passenger in a Mazda driven by Dung Q. Huynh, 26, also of Ellicott City. Mr. Huynh and another passenger, Kiet Huynh, both of the 3700 block of Joycin Court, were treated at University Hospital and released, a nurse said. Their ages were not immediately available.

None of the Mazda's occupants wore seat belts, police said.

The driver of the Datsun, Sandra Jane Shue, 43, of the 300 block of Town Green Way in Reisterstown, appeared to be uninjured and refused medical treatment, police said. Charges are pending.

The accident happened after the Datsun drove onto the ramp from Route 29 to northbound Old Columbia Pike and entered a right turn only lane. The Datsun continued northbound, striking two construction barrels, police said.

The car ran a red light on Route 103 and collided with the Mazda, which was westbound on Montgomery Road, police said.

The impact caused the Mazda to spin and come to rest against a light support pole, police said.

The Datsun continued northbound and hit a curb near the Co lumbia Pike Shell Station, police said. It then spun and struck an unoccupied Mercury Tracer that was parked on the station's lot, police said.

Police said it did not appear that Ms. Shue was under the influence of alcohol.
