Police seek Hickey escapee

November 01, 1992

A 17-year-old youth escaped last night from the Charles H. Hickey Jr. School, the state institution for juvenile offenders, after taking a staff worker's car, state police reported.

Matthew Jones, whose last known address was in the 2800 block of West North Ave., left the Baltimore County school in a blue Pontiac Grand Am at about 8:10 p.m., state police said.

Last night's runaway was the latest in a rash of escapes from the state Department of Juvenile Services' school in Cub Hill.

Twice in September, groups of 10 or more youths overpowered their counselors and escaped. Most were caught soon afterward and returned.

Rebound Corp. Inc., a Denver-based corporation, has operated the school for the state in the last year.
