BALTIMORE — Fell's Point bar owner arrested in cocaine raid

Federal, state and Baltimore drug agents raided a Fell's Point bar Friday night and arrested the owner, who the Drug Enforcement Administration said has been the head of a cocaine trafficking organization.

Helen's Hollywood Bar, at 714 S. Broadway, was raided about 6 p.m., the same time narcotics officers stormed into four other locations in the city and Baltimore County.

In all, police seized $75,000 worth of cocaine and marijuana, $25,000 in cash, $100,000 worth of jewelry, and several handguns.

The bar's owner, Helen Marie Dupreez, 46, of the 2900 block of Elliott St. in Baltimore, is suspected of leading a drug organization that has been selling cocaine in Southeast Baltimore for 10 years, the DEA said.

She and Mamie Marie Newhouse, 22, of the 1000 block of Sumter Ave. in Rosedale, were charged with distribution of cocaine, possession of cocaine and possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute.

One killed, 2 hurt in three accidents

One person was killed and two others, including a pedestrian, were critically injured in three accidents Friday and yesterday in Carroll and Anne Arundel counties.

Angela Jane Hoffman, 26, of the 200 block of Cranberry Road in Westminster, was pronounced dead on the scene in Trevanion.

State police said Ms. Hoffman's 1987 Plymouth Horizon skidded off rain-slick Trevanion Road and hit a tree.

The first accident in Anne Arundel County occurred yesterday morning about 12:30 a.m.

County police said Dennis Hook, 39, of the 1200 block of Hillside Road in Pasadena, was walking north on Fort Smallwood Road near Geneva Road when he was hit by an Isuzu Trooper, driven south by Todd Wilinson of the 100 block of Club Road in Pasadena.

Mr. Hook was taken to North Arundel Hospital and later transferred to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was listed in critical condition yesterday.

About two hours later, county police said a 24-year-old Army man lost control of his 1991 Nissan Stanza while traveling north on Old Stage Road in Glen Burnie, went over a hill and hit a tree in a yard in the 700 block. J. C. Harris of the 7000 block of A. Christian Loop in Fort Meade was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was listed in critical condition yesterday.

Severna Park principal released on bail

The Severna Park Elementary School principal charged as being a drug kingpin has been released on bail.

A bondsman posted $15,000 late Friday night to get Patricia Ann Emory, 45, released from the Anne Arundel County Detention Center, prison officials said.

Man found dead in Leakin Park

BALTIMORE

Police are trying to identify the body of a black man found early yesterday on the side of a quiet road in Leakin Park.

The body, with an injury to the head, was found by a motorist who had stopped in the 4600 block of Franklintown Road at about 4 a.m., investigators said.
