Class to teach ways to affect zoning

Anne Arundel Community College is offering a class on how to influence zoning changes and public projects in neighborhoods.

The class, called Zoning and Public Projects, is designed to help community associations improve their ability to influence decision-making on county zoning issues by teaching them how the county processes work.

The non-credit class will be taught by Glenn Mathiasen, who has more than 20 years of community planning experience and works in the county Office of Planning and Zoning.

The three-session class is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Nov. 5, 12 and 19, at the Arnold campus. Participants will focus on factors used by county officials in deciding zoning categories and scheduling public projects for the capital budget.

Benfield school's PTA is publishing cookbook

The Benfield Elementary School PTA is publishing a cookbook to celebrate the school's 30th birthday.

Rowdy intoxication on B&A trail alleged

County police have charged a Baltimore man with disorderly intoxication, reporting that he was found Friday urinating on the B&A bike trail in Severna Park.

When officers arrived at the trail, they found a man standing near a tree. He told officers he had been drinking all day and could urinate any place he wanted, they said.

Donald Joseph Kempel, 34, of the 4200 block of Pennington Ave. was charged in the Eastern District police station.

*Arnold: A Bowie man reported to police that someone broke into his car Friday while it was parked along the B&A bike trail and stole his wife's purse. The total loss is $255.

*Severna Park: A resident reported to police that someone broke into her home in the 200 block of Riverdale Road Thursday and stole $100 from the dresser in her bedroom.

*Cape St. Claire: A Severna Park man reported to police that someone smashed the driver's side window of his 1980 Ford Mustang that was on the parking lot of Broadneck High School Tuesday. The vandals took stereo equipment.
