Congressional candidates to debate

Nine congressional candidates from four Maryland districts will square off in a campaign forum at 7 p.m. Thursday at Anne Arundel Community College's Pascal Center for the Performing Arts.

The debaters will include incumbent Wayne T. Gilchrest, R-1st, and incumbent Tom McMillen, D-4th, vying for the newly drawn 1st District; Incumbent Helen Delich Bentley, R-2nd, and Democratic challenger Michael Hickey; Republican candidate William Bricker and Democratic incumbent Ben Cardin, D-3rd; and Republican challenger Larry Hogan, Independent candidate William Johnston III and incumbent Steny H. Hoyer, D-5th.

Candidates will begin by responding to the results of an Oct. 5 to 8 survey by AACC's Center for the Study of Local Issues.

The open forum will begin at 8:30 p.m., include a 15-minute break, and continue until 9:45 p.m.

Pepsi employee mugged in grocery store lot

A Pepsi-Cola employee was mugged yesterday morning in the parking lot of a Severna Park grocery store.

John Shanahan, 26, of Essex, told police he was making a delivery at 9:39 a.m. in the 400 block of Ritchie Highway when two men struck him from behind. He was hit

several times in the face and knocked to the ground, police reports said.

His assailants took his wallet and money from his pants pockets and fled into the woods behind the shopping center.

Mr. Shanahan suffered minor cuts on his face and right arm.


* Arnold: A Pasadena man reported to police that someone smashed the passenger-side window out of his 1989 Ford Taurus that was parked in the lot at Anne Arundel Community College Wednesday.

* Arnold: A Millersville woman reported to police that someone stole $105 from her purse after she left it in a classroom at Anne Arundel Community College Wednesday.
