Series bonanza

Economists estimate that the World Series was worth more than $25 million each in commerce to the cities of Toronto and Atlanta, and estimates range as high as $40 million, according to The Atlanta Journal and Constitution.

Experts say that the Super Bowl is much more lucrative for the host city, because it brings in out-of-towners from two cities instead of one. Economic analysts in Minneapolis estimated that last January's Super Bowl generated $153 million.

This year's World Series is expected to generate less for Atlanta than last year, because the Braves were coming off a big season in 1991. In anticipation of a repeat, more fans bought season tickets and became eligible to by playoff and World Series tickets. That reduced the number available to potential visitors.
