Paying tribute to the bay

DAYTRIPPING

October 25, 1992

Chesapeake Appreciation Days is a tribute to the bay, its watermen and the bounty they reap. This year's event will be held Saturday and next Sunday at Sandy Point State Park near Annapolis from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You can see the famous skipjacks under sail both mornings with three races Saturday and a Skipjack Free for All Sunday, along with several other boat races during morning hours. The event also features two stages of continuous musical entertainment, a juggler, an amateur oyster shucking contest, a jousting exhibition, a workboat docking contest, crab races, arts and crafts, displays by the Maryland beef, pork and wine industries, a Halloween parade Saturday, face painting, children's stories, wild birds and animals to see and touch, and good things to eat.

Admission is $5; free for children under 12. Proceeds go to preserving the skipjack fleet and for oyster replenishment. Call (410) 269-6622.
