Four Seasons expands to include 'soccer-golf'

The Carroll County Board of Zoning Appeals has approved a request by the owners of the Four Seasons Sports Complex on Hampstead-Mexico Road in Hampstead to build an outdoor "soccer-golf course," which will be used as a commercial recreation area.

The course will be built on a 22 1/2 -acre site north of the complex and east of Cape Horn Road.

"It's basically like a par-3 golf course except we'll be playing with a soccer ball and you kick the ball," said Greg Newman, Four Seasons' vice president. "There will be obstacles throughout the course for players to go around."

The course will have educational as well as recreational purposes, he said, because "players will have to use different kicking techniques, which will help them improve as players."

The first 18 holes of the course are expected to be open in May or June of 1993. The course may be expanded later with a smaller version for younger children.

FIRE

* Hampstead: A house fire on Hanover Pike near Hampstead brought firefighters from that company as well as Manchester and Arcadia. The 9:30 a.m. alarm kept the equipment out of service for 20 minutes on Wednesday.
