TOKYO -- Sega Enterprises Ltd., a distributor and operator of amusement equipment, including home-computer video games, has announced that it plans to open 50 high-tech electronic theme parks in Japan within five years.

A Sega spokesman said the giant electronic arcades would feature virtual-reality attractions.

Sega reached an agreement in June with General Electric Co. to develop technology to harness GE's image-processing systems.
