West Virginia rallies twice, ties Navy

October 18, 1992

Navy soccer coach Greg Myers was not happy yesterday after his team battled to a 2-2 tie against West Virginia at Dewey Field.

"We played great soccer in the first half and horrible soccer after that," Myers said.

The Midshipmen scored first on Tim Bourdon's team-leading eighth goal with 3:13 left in the first half. Cliff Carpenter earned his ninth assist of the season to set a single-season Navy record. West Virginia tied it on an unassisted score by Keith Quill, forcing overtime.

A goal by Seth Walters put Navy up, but the Mountaineers tied it again on Jason Steiner's goal.

"When you score in overtime, you've got to be able to hold on for the win," Myers said. "We were lucky to escape with a tie."
