Indian summer has come to the area, and local drivers have used the good weather to their advantage.

Finksburg's Al Shawver collected $1,000 for his second consecutive win of the 100-lap open competition in the street stock feature at Hagerstown Speedway last Sunday.

Shawver grabbed first place on lap 19 and won by seven seconds after starting in 11th place. Shawver also won his heat race.

Don Zechman of Westminster had the lead in the early going, but suffered a flat midway through to battle back to fourth.

Victory was almost in the hands of Westminster's Brad McClelland at Trail-Way Speedway's Coors Extra Gold Nation Open micro sprint feature.

McClelland banked high going into the fourth turn and Kevin Gobrecht passed him. It was a dog-and-cat chase for the rest of the eight laps.

McClelland settled for second, and another Westminster resident Mike Stull finished third. Steve Owings of Union Mills finished ninth.

At 75-80 Dragway, Westminster's Larry Hoff claimed the ETK race in his Fairline last Sunday. Taneytown's Donnie Hess was the runner-up in his Probe, and Jim Peddicord of Westminster was a semifinalist.

In Class I action Saturday, Hampstead's Allan Palmer claimed the runner-up spot, with Taneytown's Corey Hess reaching the semis. Chuck Taylor of Westminster was a quarterfinalist.
