Lifestyles of traditional watermen survive on the Chesapeake's Tilghman Island

October 18, 1992

Tilghman Island is a good place to observe the lifestyles of Chesapeake Bay watermen, and Tilghman Island Day Saturday is the right time for a visit. The island naturally has great seafood. One place to find it Saturday is the Firehouse, where the menu includes steamed crabs and oysters. Kronsberg Park will be the hub of activity, with games, music, an auction sale and food. An arts and crafts show will be held at Tilghman Elementary School. Look for skipjacks at Dogwood Harbor. Admission is $4; free for under 12. Take U.S. 50 to Easton to state Route 322 (Easton Parkway) to state Route 33 through St. Michaels. Call (410) 822-4606.
