Columbia man accused of assaulting wife surrenders to 0) police

A 26-year-old Columbia man wanted in connection with the assault and battery of his estranged wife this week turned himself in to police yesterday, Howard County police said.

Kevin Darnell Fowlkes, of the 10500 block of Cross Fox Lane, in Wilde Lake, had been charged in an arrest warrant in the assault and assault and battery of his 23-year-old wife, Deneen Fowlkes, Monday, police said.

He was released on his own recognizance, police said.

At about 2 a.m. Monday, police said Mr. Fowlkes forced his way into his wife's apartment on Cross Fox Lane and assaulted her. Police said Mrs. Fowlkes received a superficial

stab wound to her right hand during the assault.

She fled and called police, officers said. She was treated at Howard County General Hospital and released, police said.

However, when police and the Howard County Tactical Unit arrived at the apartment, they tried unsuccessfully to make contact with Mr. Fowlkes, who they believed was inside. Once they entered the apartment, they learned that he had fled.
