Jimeno proposes traffic controls on Mountain Rd.

State Sen. Phil Jimeno is promoting a new plan to ease traffic on Mountain Road, now that a project to widen the road east of Route 100 has been put on hold.

Mr. Jimeno, the District 31 Democrat, outlined the plan, which calls for reworking the intersection of Mountain Road and Lake Shore Drive, in a letter this week to Hal Kassoff, head of the State Highway Administration.

The "proposal may offer relief for traffic exiting the Mountain Road corridor," he wrote.

Under the plan, westbound traffic would continue without stopping for a light, and traffic coming from Lake Shore into westbound lanes of Mountain Road would have a traffic light and a protected lane to merge into the existing westbound traffic.

The plan could be put in place quickly, he said, "offering some immediate relief at realistic expense."

* Lake Shore: A Pasadena man whose van hit a tree in the front yard of a home in the unit block of Lake Shore Drive was charged early Wednesday with disorderly conduct after an argument with the homeowner. Officers filed the charges against Timothy J. Hildebrand, 23, of the 8500 block of Bay Road, after he allegedly threatened the homeowner, Michael Messina.
