Fire destroys storage building in Taneytown

A garage and storage building burned to the ground next to a Taneytown house shortly before 11 a.m. yesterday.

The owner of the 35-by-35-foot structure, Wayne Wantz of the 2200 block of Trevanion Road, said, "I was in the garage about 9 a.m. sharpening a blade and everything was all right at that time."

He said he left home and returned to find the building on fire. The blaze was reported at 10:44 a.m.

Mr. Wantz said that tools, garden equipment and a 1984 Lincoln that were in the garage, "are a total loss."

Mr. Wantz said the wooden building was open in the front.

Firefighters from Taneytown, Union Bridge and Harney responded to the fire and had to shuttle water to the scene.
