Duguid serving off coast of Somalia

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Brett M. Duguid, a former resident of the Village of Owen Brown, is serving aboard the dock landing ship USS Fort Fisher off the coast of Somalia.

Based in San Francisco, the Fort Fisher is supporting the United Nations airlift of 500 Pakistani troops to the famine-stricken nation. While in the area, the ship will be available for search-and-rescue operations.

The USS Fort Fisher has a crew of 350 sailors and 20 naval officers. The ship also has a 350-member Marine contingent.

Petty Officer Duguid, son of William P. and Lena V. Duguid, joined the Navy in April 1989.
