Odenton youth, 13, charged with assaulting police officer

County police charged a 13-year-old Odenton youth with dragging a police officer for about 30 feet with his off-road vehicle when the officer stopped him for questioning Friday night.

According to police, the Officer Tanya Minion went to Arundel Senior High School in the 1000 block of Annapolis Road about 7 p.m., responding to a complaint that someone was driving on the baseball field.

The officer stopped an off-the-road vehicle, and as she was trying to have the driver turn off the engine, the driver drove away, dragging her along. After going about 30 feet, the driver shoved the officer away from the vehicle and drove off.

The youth was arrested later at his home and charged with destruction of property, trespassing and battery. He was released into his mother's custody, police said.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was later treated at a local hospital and released, police said.
