LANSTOR DISK ARRAY

Requires Novell NetWare network 3.11 or later with Microchannel, EISA or ISA server. $25,700 for 2.1-gigabyte model, $34,200 for 4.2-gigabyte model. From Storage Dimensions, 1656 McCarthy Blvd., Milpitas, Calif. 95035. (408) 954-0710.

Summary: Networks live on their central "server" disk drives. These drives must be fast and reliable. The LANStor Disk Array achieves speed through a Fast SCSI-2 interface. Its dramatic reliability comes from two power supplies and RAID-5 disk technology. One power supply and any of the five disks inside the array can fail, and the network will keep running without any lost data.

Although expensive, the array is reasonable for anyone whose time and data may be far more expensive.

On a scale of one to four, with one indicating poor and four indicating excellent, here's how the product rates:

LANSTOR DISK ARRAY Performance 4

Ease of use 4

Value 3
