Emily Friel Owens Active in alumnae group

Emily Friel Owens, who was active in the alumnae association of the College of Notre Dame, died Wednesday of heart failure at Union Memorial Hospital.

A Mass of Christian burial for Mrs. Owens, who was 87 and lived at Keswick, was to be offered at 11:30 a.m. today at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Queenstown.

She was a former vice president of the alumnae association and a member of the alumnae honor roll of Noyes Alumnae House.

The former Emily Friel was a native of Queenstown, a graduate of what is now the Notre Dame Preparatory School and a 1926 graduate of the college.

She was a former secretary of the Queen Anne County chapter of the Women's Eastern Shore Society and organized the society's scholarship fund.

She taught mathematics in high schools on the Eastern Shore and in Western Maryland before her marriage to Charles B. Owens, who taught at City College before his death in 1965.

Mrs. Owens was a member of SS. Philip and James Church in Baltimore.

She is survived by two brothers, S. E. W. Friel of Queenstown and Daniel D. Friel of Greenville, Del.; four nieces; two nephews; seven grandnieces; and six grandnephews.
