Manchester driver strikes electrical pole

A 32-year-old Manchester woman who apparently suffered chest pains while driving her car northbound in the 2900 block of Hanover Pike yesterday escaped serious injury when her car ran off the road, traveled down an embankment and hit a utility pole.

Police reported that a car driven by Martha Pratt Kolstedt of Ebbvale Road in Manchester crossed the center line on Hanover Pike just south of Manchester, ran down a small embankment and struck a utility pole, snapping it in two pieces.

Mrs. Kolstedt was transported to Carroll County General Hospital for treatment, though no external injuries were visible, police said.

The woman's 3-year-old son, who was sleeping in a car seat in the rear, was not injured. The child was released to a family member after being examined by paramedics at the scene.

Office Joseph Lettau of the Manchester Police Department sai witnesses reported the woman was traveling about 35 miles per hour when her car ran off the road.
