Giants' story: Simms is down, Taylor to be out

October 08, 1992

Yesterday wasn't exactly the greatest day for the New Yor Giants of the NFL.

For instance, things started going downhill when it was learned starting quarterback Phil Simms has a bad elbow and will miss at least one game.

That means Jeff Hostetler is in the starting lineup and Simms may go on the inactive list.

A while later, coach Ray Handley, not the most popular fellow with the press anyway, had a run-in with two photographers.

To top it off, linebacker Lawrence Taylor, deemed by some as the best player at his position in football history, said he's calling it a career after this season.

Baltimore native George Young, the Giants' GM, was said to be in search of the aspirin bottle early today.
