Fire Company works to aid hurricane victims

Fire Prevention Week is being celebrated this week at schools throughout the county.

Traditionally the Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company and the PTA groups at Hampstead and Spring Garden elementary schools have joined to give the children fire prevention promotional materials such as pencils or book covers.

This year, because of the suffering caused by hurricanes in Florida, Louisiana and Hawaii, the three groups have decided to donate the money normally used for these items to a school in a storm-damaged area. They chose Hattie Watts Elementary School in Patterson, La.
