Approval sought to build park on Owen Brown site

The county is seeking the Columbia Council's approval to to build a park on a 2-acre site in the Village of Owen Brown.

The council will consider the proposal tonight at its meeting, which starts at 8 p.m. in its new chambers at 10221 Wincopin Circle.

The Owen Brown Village Board has recommended approval of the proposed Elkhorn Neighborhood Park, which would probably include sports fields, a tot lot and an off-street parking area.

The 2.26-acre site is at the corner of Homespun Lane and Oakland Mills Road.

The Columbia Association is recommending approval of the proposal on the condition the county agree to maintain a storm water drainage pond near the site. The pond would filter water draining into Lake Elkhorn.

Clara Gouin, a county park planner, said a design for the park has not been drafted, nor is there a cost estimate on the proposal.
