Oakland Mills clerk thwarts robbery

Howard County police are searching for a man with a shotgun who attempted to rob a gas station attendant in Columbia yesterday.

At about 2:30 a.m., a man entered the Chevron gas station in the 5900 block of Stevens Forest Road in Oakland Mills and displayed a sawed-off shotgun, police said.

He ordered the clerk to open the cash register.

But when the attendant dropped to the floor inside a locked area of the station, the man fled, police said.

The suspect was a 5-foot-10 male, who was wearing a camouflage jacket and a white scarf.
