October 07, 1992

The 13th annual Maryland Senior Olympics, open to residents age 55 and older, takes place tomorrow through Saturday on the campus of Towson State University and other selected sites.

Sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maryland, in cooperation with the Maryland Office on Aging, the Senior Olympics is the single largest senior athletic event in the state.

In addition to more than 50 individual events, three team events are scheduled, including three-on-three basketball, softball and volleyball.

Last year, more than 1,400 seniors participated in the 58 events, which include archery, track and field, billiards, tennis, cycling and more.

Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded after each event to the top three male and female finishers in each age group.

Commemorative certificates will be given to all participants.

This year's event serves as the qualifying games for the 1993 national competition June 12-18 in Baton Rouge, La.
