Riviera Beach leagues sponsor softball tryouts

Grab your glove and hit the diamond, because Riviera Beach Girls Softball is conducting fast-pitch softball tryouts for its four select Riviera Beach Spirit summer teams Oct. 17 and 18 at Rock Creek Park.

Players are needed for all positions in the 18-and-under, 16-and-under, 14-and-under and 12-and-under leagues. Tryouts begin at 1 p.m.

POLICE LOG

* A Sunset Beach man reported to police that his home in the 8400 block of Bedford Road was broken into Thursday. Dirk H. Freddy told officers that furniture worth about $2,000 was taken.

* Joseph K. Payne, 27, of the 7800 block of Edgewood Ave. reported to police that someone stole items from two cars parked in front of his home Friday night.

Mr. Payne's 1986 Ford Ranger Truck and 1985 Chevrolet Camaro were broken into.

Stolen were a compact disc player, 12 cassette tapes and a boom box stereo. The driver's doors were unlocked at the time of the theft.
