Jim's Hideaway's wins regional World Series WEST COUNTY -- Crofton * Odenton * Fort Meade * Gambrills

Jim's Hideaway's slow-pitch softball team recently attended the National Softball Association Regional World Series and ran away with the championship, winning all seven games.

Team members are Ernie Temple, Pat Guthrie, Mike Spake, Mike Kirby, Lane Woods, Leroy Downin, Kevin Lieberman, Tim Heppding, Danny Knopp, Rusty Gardner, Jerry Goldy, Tim Arrington and coach Bobby Gentile.

Kirby won MVP honors, batting .650 with 9 RBI. Spake, Goldy, Downin, Heppding, Lieberman and Kirby made the All-World Team.

The Waugh Chapel Elementary School Parent Association is sponsoring its semiannual yard sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24 in the school cafeteria. Tables will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis and will cost $8, $10 or $12 depending on size. A bake sale will held throughout the day in the school lobby.

The Retired Officers' Wives' Club is sponsoring a trip to New York City Nov. 13 to 15.

Included are two nights at the Sheraton Center Hotel, the Radio City Music Hall Christmas show, the Broadway play "Miss Saigon," dinners at the Russian Tea Room and the Symphony Cafe and brunch aboard a Cruise Line vessel. Single occupancy is $606, double occupancy $480.

The West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce is asking the community to bring donations for Sarah's House to its Art Show and Auction, presented by the Heisman Fine Arts Gallery Inc. of Ardmore, Pa., on Oct. 17.

The auction will be held at the Piney Orchard Visitor Center, 2400 Stream Valley Drive in Odenton. Sarah's House, Anne Arundel County's shelter for the homeless, needs these items in particular: cereal, powdered drink mixes, coffee, canned fruits and ethnic hair products.

In addition, the chamber will donate 10 percent of all ticket sales to Sarah's House.

The evening will begin with a preview of the art beginning at 7 p.m., to be followed by refreshments and the auction at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $10 per person or $15 per couple. Call the chamber officer at 672-3422 to reserve tickets or for more information.
