Radio group sets computer show on Saturday

The Columbia Amateur Radio Association (CARA) will present its 16th annual Computer Show and Hamfest from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Howard County Fairgrounds.

Computers, peripherals and amateur radio equipment will be on display.

Dealers in these fields will also be present.

An admission donation of $5 is requested, and covers spouses and children. The show will also have an outdoor "tailgating" area.

Dealers interested in indoor tables or outdoor tailgating space should call 992-8209.

Proceeds from the show will support CARA scholarships, amateur classes and a repeater system.

West Friendship plans fire station open house

The West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, located at 12460 Frederick Road, will hold an open house from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The open house is part of Howard County Fire and Rescue Services' Fire Prevention Week, which ends Sunday.

Residents may visit the department in their community and talk to the firefighters and emergency medical technicians who staff the station.

* Glenelg: 13800 block of Kennard Drive: Between Saturday and Sunday, someone pried a $20 wooden mailbox off a wall.

* Cooksville: 14600 block of Frederick Road: During a fight Saturday, someone kicked in the front-left quarter panel of a 1978 Chevrolet Nova and left a large dent.

* Fulton: Fulton Station High's: On Sunday, an alarm sounded. Police found the front door had been smashed with a rock. Cigarettes were taken. An older model large vehicle was seen leaving the shopping center.

* Clarksville: 6300 block of Morning Dew Court: Between Sept. 27 and Friday, someone took an air compressor and a generator.
