Nintendo-Microsoft link?

SEATTLE -- Microsoft and Nintendo, just blocks apart in Redmond, Wash., are like a couple of movie stars often seen together but denying that their relationship is serious. Both want a major share of the emerging "infotainment" and "edutainment" markets, which combine television, sound and graphics with the processing power of personal computers.

The latest word is that Nintendo has hired a software company to look into linking its games with Microsoft's new modular Windows platform. The platform is a simplified version of the company's computer interface that Tandy recently adapted to televisions for its new Video Information System.

Wags have christened the concept "Wintendo." Both companies say it's all just talk.
