In one day, North County's Shawn Moyer went from walking on crutches to scoring in the clutch.

Hobbled by a bruised right foot and marked closely throughout the game, Moyer was shut down until 2:31 into overtime, when he lined a penalty kick just inside the right post to give No. 10 North County a 3-2 win over Old Mill last night.

The Patriots' Scott O'Rourke, one of the players assigned to Moyer, was Boys soccer

whistled for holding as Moyer raced toward the left sideline. The call infuriated Old Mill's coaching staff and helped lift North County to 5-1.

"I definitely felt there was a foul," said Knights coach Steve Malone. "It's a heck of a time to have it called, but if a foul's committed, it should be called."

Moyer's goal, his 11th this season, handed Old Mill (2-1-1) its first loss of the season.

"I just wanted to put it in there," he said. "Usually, I pick a side, but this time I just wanted to put it home."

The Knights' early pressure resulted in a 1-0 lead when senior Mike Hoskins headed in a crossing pass from Chris Cosentino at 7:57.

Finally, with 20 minutes left in the first half, Old Mill scored the equalizer when O'Rourke sent a pass that Nick Badalian headed into the right corner. O'Rourke picked up his second assist at 30:27 when he tapped the ball in front to Dan Knight, who outraced Patriots keeper Mike Mullen (seven saves) for possession and scored for a 2-1 lead.
