Rewording sought on forest law

October 02, 1992

Responding to concerns about Carroll's proposed forest conservation ordinance, the county commissioners yesterday asked the staff to make some revisions, including rewording a section about fines for failing to comply with the law.

The commissioners asked that wording in a section about fines be changed so that violators "may" be fined instead of "shall" be fined. Some developers complained that under the previous wording they could be penalized for oversights or errors in reforestation efforts.

County officials have held two public work sessions on the state-mandated ordinance in the past two weeks.

The commissioners will hold a public hearing on the proposed ordinance -- aimed at retaining the county's fragmented forests -- at 7 p.m. Monday in the Westminster High School auditorium.
