Business Expo set for Oct. 8 at Martin's

The fourth annual Business to Business Expo comes to Martin's Westminster on Oct. 8.

Doors open at 8 a.m. with a general membership breakfast, featuring speeches by 6th District congressional candidates Thomas Hattery and Roscoe Bartlett.

Exhibitors from throughout the area will showcase their latest products and services until 7 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce. Free seminars will be offered.

Reservations are required for the breakfast, which costs $8 per person, and for lunch, $15 per person. Vince Bagli of WBAL-TV will deliver the luncheon address.

Motor association elects president

The Maryland Motor Truck Association elected James R. Jones its president at its 40th annual convention.

The non-profit organization, which comprises more than 1,000 companies, represents the motor carrier industry in the state.

Mr. Jones, a graduate of Franklin High School in Reisterstown, is president of D. M. Bowman Inc. of Williamsport. He is married to Sandra Shipley Jones, formerly of Sykesville.

The Shipley family owned Shipley Transfer, a trucking company based in Sykesville and Curtis Bay before it was sold in 1975.

The couple and their two children live in Hagerstown.

New sales manager appointed to Carroll

Thulman Eastern Corp. has appointed Michael Mercer as its sales manager for the Carroll County market area.

Mr. Mercer will be based in Elkridge and will continue to manage dealer sales for the company, which manufactures and distributes fireplace products.
