Local parish, city church collaborate

St. Andrew by the Bay, a Roman Catholic church on College Parkway, will visit its new sister church in Baltimore on Sunday.

At the 10 a.m. service at St. Martin's Church, 31 N. Fulton Ave., at the corner of North Fulton and Fayette streets, both congregations will celebrate a joint venture in church unity and growth.

The members of St. Martin's visited the Cape St. Claire church last Sunday.

The churches plan to attend parish council meetings together and exchange ideas, as well as hold mutual activities.

Severna Park store reports cigarette theft

Two men stole 30 packs of Newport cigarettes from a convenience store in Severna Park on Sunday. According to police, the men walked into the store in the 600 block of Ritchie Highway at 5:30 p.m.

The store was full of customers and the clerk saw the men loitering near the cigarette display, but did not see them take the cigarettes.

When the clerk tried to talk to them, the men ran away.

Son of Arnold family named sergeant

Charles H. Remmers Jr. of Arnold has been named platoon sergeant of Bravo Company at Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Va.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Remmers, he assumed his new duties at a Sept. 10 ceremony.

Fishburne Military School was founded in 1879 and has been an FTC honor Junior ROTC unit ever since the Department of the Army established the program in 1922.


* Crownsville: Keith W. Harrington, 22, of the 800 block of Vine St., reported to police that someone broke the window of his car and stole his radio speakers.

Mr. Harrington said his 1988 Toyota Camary was parked in front of his house Monday between 12:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. when the thief broke in and stole the equipment from the trunk.

* Arnold: Shawn Barchanowicz, 20, told police that someone stole musical equipment from his car parked in the 800 block of Twin Harbor Drive Sunday. He said the equipment is valued at $439.

* Severna Park: A thief stole a lawn mower and weed whacker Friday from the driveway of a home in the 800 block of Cottonwood Drive.

Robert A. Davila, 34, said the equipment was taken sometime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The lawn equipment is valued at $390.
