Siblings take top honors in dairy, goat show

A brother and sister took top honors in the 4-H and FFA Dairy and Goat Show at the Maryland State Fair in Timonium recently. A record 320 advance entries were recorded in the category.

Showing an Alpine doe in the fitting and showing contest was the junior champion, Amy Iager, 11, of Fulton. She demonstrated her knowledge of dairy goats on her way to winning this award.

The senior and grand champion Alpine award went to Amy's 2-year-old milking doe, Sweet Dreams GF Justine.

The senior and grand champion was won by Singing Hills Luscious Laverne, a 2-year-old milker shown by Amy.

Her brother, Will, 9, took prizes in the All Other Breeds competition. His Saanen dry yearling, DES Rubigetstell Dream, was named junior champion and his Saanen 2-year-old, Windsor Manor WS Danstead, took the senior and grand champion.

County police conduct personal safety classes

The Howard County Police Department will conduct two personal safety seminars at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Oct. 14 at the Forest Ridge Elementary School. The seminars are scheduled to help citizens reduce their chances of becoming victims. There is no preregistration.

*Jessup: 8200 block of Patuxent Range Road: An alarm sounded Tuesday when glass was smashed.

*Scaggsville: 8300 block of Spring Blossom Court: A door screen was cut on Thursday.

8500 block of Pineway Drive: A door window was smashed between Tuesday and Wednesday, and the vandal unlocked the window lock. The intruder ransacked a dresser and watched TV.

8600 block of Fellsview Drive: A door was kicked in Wednesday.
