SHOWS

Today: Sunfest Boat Show at Shantytown Village in West Ocean City. Show opens at noon. No admission charge. More than 100 boats on display. Call (410) 213-1121.

Saturday-Sunday: Camrod Hunting Club gun and knife show at the Timonium Fairgrounds. 500 trade tables featuring shot guns, rifles, ammunition, pistols, gun parts, knives, swords, books, hunting supplies and antiques. Show opens both days at 9 a.m. Admission is $4.

Oct. 9-12: U.S. Sailboat Show at the city docks in Annapolis. Call (410) 268-8828.

Oct. 31-Nov. 1: Chesapeake Appreciation Days at Sandy Point State Park near Annapolis, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appreciation days are a celebration of the bay and its working watermen, recreational opportunities and environmental value.

FISHING

Wednesday: Monthly meeting of Maryland Fly Anglers, 7:30 p.m. Ridge Garden Apartments club house, Old Harford Road and Putty Hill Avenue. Speaker is scheduled to be John Capowski on the limestone streams of south-central Pennsylvania. The public is welcome. Call (410) 825-2695.

Wednesday and Saturday: Citizen participation work groups to assist in the preparation of a management plan for Big Hunting Creek in Frederick County. Sponsored by DNR Freshwater Fisheries, Cunningham Falls State Park, Catoctin Mountain National Park. 12:30 to 5 p.m. each day at American Legion, 8 Park Lane, Thurmont.

Oct. 7: Monthly meeting of Free State Fly Fishers, 7:30 p.m., at Hillsmere Elementary School, Annapolis. Speaker will be Don Benson on fishing the upper Delaware River.

Oct. 10-11: Annual Bethany-Fenwick Surf Fishing Tournament headquartered at the Delaware National Guard camp in Bethany Beach, Del. Cash prizes for adults and merchandise for youth class winners.

Nov. 2: Monthly meeting of the Free State Fly Fishers, 7:30 p.m., at Hillsmere Elementary School, Annapolis. Speaker will be David Rickenbocker on fishing in New Zealand.

Nov. 13-15: Mid-Atlantic Council of the Federation of Fly Fishermen conclave at the Venice Inn, Hagerstown.

HUNTING/SHOOTING

Oct. 18, 25, Nov. 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22: Hunter sight-in days at Baltimore County Game and Fish Protective Association, 3400 North Wind Road. Saturday sessions begin at 9 a.m. Sunday sessions begin at noon. $3 donation per gun.

Oct. 12: Hunting buddies program sponsored by the Susquehannock Chapter of Safari Club International, Hopewell Pheasantry and the Pennsylvania Sportsmen for the Disabled. Lunch and afternoon hunt. Hopewell Pheasantry, Felton, Pa. Call (717) 993-6393.

BOATING

Oct. 3-4: DNR-sponsored overnight canoe trip on the Potomac River from Paw Paw, W.Va., to Little Orleans. Trip guided by DNR Rangers. $60 fee. Call (301) 777-2345.

HIKING/CLIMBING
