ANNAPOLIS — Cadets from county meet at Fort Bragg

Five county residents, attending various colleges, recently came together at the ROTC advanced camp at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, N.C.

Nicole D. Leazott, of Fort Meade, attending the University of New Hampshire; Patrick E. Foley of Harwood, a student at Virginia Military Institute; Shane E. Ruley of Edgewater, attending James Madison University; Ryan H. McQueeney of West River, a student at Lehigh University; and Paul K. Kyle of Gambrills, from Loyola College, received instruction in communications, management and survival training.

Cadets who attend the camp are normally between their third and fourth year of college.

Successful completion of the camp and graduation from college results in a commission as a second lieutenant in either the U.S. Army, National Guard, or Army Reserves.

Army National Guard Pvt. 1st Class Joseph R. DeVries has completed an aircraft structural repair course at Fort Eustis, Newport News, Va. Pvt. DeVries is a 1986 graduate of Boys Latin High School.

Navy Lt. j.g. Neale R. Ellis is currently aboard the guided missile cruiser USS San Jacinto, deployed in the Caribbean and South America. Lt. Ellis is a 1984 graduate of Annapolis High School

GLEN BURNIE

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Robert E. Vogel, is currently aboard the guided missile cruiser USS San Jacinto, deployed in the Caribbean and South America. Petty Officer Vogel is a 1987 graduate of Glen Burnie High School.

Navy Lt. j.g. Richard N. Maenhardt is on a routine three-month patrol aboard the ballistic missile submarine USS George Bancroft.

Marine Pfc. Daniel A. Arjona has been deployed to the Marine Corps Air Station in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

MAYO

Marine Lance Cpl. Casey W. Adams recently returned from a six-month deployment to Okinawa, Japan, and from participating exercise Cobra Gold '92, a joint/combined exercise involving U.S military forces and forces from the Thailand army. Lance Corporal Adams is a 1990 graduate of South River High School.

MILLERSVILLE

Specialist Marc A. Meleney has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal, awarded to soldiers for meritorious service, acts of courage, or other outstanding accomplishments. Spec. Meleney is a 1988 graduate of Old Mill High School.

Marine Cpl. Craig A. Collbaugh has returned from a six-month deployment to Okinawa, Japan, and from participating in exercise Cobra Gold '92, a joint exercise involving U.S. and Thailand forces. Corporal Collbaugh is a 1988 graduate of Severna Park High School.

PASADENA

Navy Seaman Recruit Brian W. Ferguson recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Il.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Brian J. Francis was recently deployed to the Baltic Sea aboard the USS O'Bannon, where he participated in a combined exercise with the Russian Navy known as Operation Handshake.

SEVERN

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Thomas A. Hartley, aboard the USS Sylvania, is part of the U.S Navy's relief effort in South Florida.

The USS Sylvania has delivered more than 490 tons of frozen food, 530 tons of dried food and more than 300 tons of other relief supplies into the region.

Officer Hartley is a 1988 graduate of Old Mill High School.

Marine Pfc. Joseph R. Porpiglia recently competed recruit training

at Parris Island, S.C. Private Porpiglia is a 1990 graduate of Archbishop Spalding High School.

SEVERNA PARK

Navy Lt. Cmdr. Richard D. Fitzpatrick, currently aboard the destroyer USS Comte de Grasse, is midway through a Mediterranean deployment with the USS Saratoga aircraft carrier battle group.

Navy Fireman Recruit Chad S. Schroyer recently graduated from Basic Interior Communications School at the Naval Training Center in San Diego. Fireman Recruit Schroyer was a 1991 graduate of Chesapeake High School.

Marine Lt. Col. Spencer H. Smith has reported for duty with Marine Aircraft Group-26 at the Marine Air Corps Station in Jacksonville, N.C.

Marine Cpl. Christopher T. Geladart was recently promoted to his present rank while serving with 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
