Wright, Dulaney take cross country titles

For the seventh consecutive Westminster Invitational Wednesday, the Westminster boys' cross country team played second fiddle, finishing as runner-up.

This year it was C. Milton Wright winning the boys team title, by a 56-101 margin over the Owls.

Dulaney captured the girls' title, defeating defending champion Frederick convincingly, 58-111. The Westminster girls had a strong third-place showing, finishing with 145.

C. M. Wright had five of its runners place in the top 18 to dominate the boys' race. Wright's Brian Harris won the individual race with Westminster's Jim Holford coming in fifth as the first county runner.

Francis Scott Key placed 11th, followed by South Carroll in 13th, Liberty in 15th and North Carroll in 21st.

Dulaney's Amanda White won the individual girls' title with teammate Kristin Friz taking second.

Along with Westminster's third-place showing, Francis Scott Key took eighth; South Carroll and Liberty were 13th and 14th, respectively, and North Carroll finished 17th.

Westminster's Joy Bullock was the first county runner across the finish line, taking 11th.

Francis Scott Key's Shannon Hugg led the Eagles' impressive showing with a 13th-place finish.
