Woman fights, flees carjack attackers

September 25, 1992

A 19-year-old Annapolis woman was the victim of an attempted carjacking early today after leaving a friend's home in Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County police said.

The victim was leaving a friend's house in the 400 block of Howard Manor Drive at 12:20 a.m. and had just entered her car when five men suddenly appeared and ran in front of the car, keeping the woman from pulling away.

Police said one of the men reached into the open window on the driver's side and grabbed the steering wheel.

Another man reached inside the car, grabbed the woman's hair and tried to pull her out , police said.

While the woman struggled and was screaming, a third man tried to open the passenger door and take the keys from the ignition.

Police said the woman finally broke free of the two men on the driver's side and sped off, leaving the five men behind.

The woman, who was not injured, drove to a gas station and called police.
