Liberty High band wins Cavalier Classic ON BANDS

WINFIELD -- Liberty High School's marching band took top honors at Saturday's Fifth Annual Cavalier Classic competition at South Carroll High School in Winfield.

The tournament featured eight- to 12-minute field shows presented by 10 bands, an exhibition performance by South Carroll's Marching Cavaliers, and an awards ceremony.

Liberty High earned the event's Best Band Overall trophy by scoring 81.2 out of a possible 100 points. The Lion's Pride marching band also took first place in the Group Three category for bands with 56 to 80 playing members, as well as Best Music, Best Percussion, and Best Marching and Maneuvering specialty awards.

Walkersville High earned second place in the Group Three category with a total score of 76.25 points and received the Best Drum Major award. North Carroll High earned 72.95 points and third place in the Group Three category, and the Best Band Front award.

Westminster High earned a score of 76.55 points and first place in the Group Four category for bands with 81 or more playing members. Westminster's Owl Marching Band also received the Best Music, Best Drum Major and Best Marching and Maneuvering specialty awards.

Linganore High earned second place in the Group Four category with 73.65 points as well as the Best Band Front and Best Percussion specialty awards.
