September 22, 1992|By Peter Baker | Peter Baker,Staff Writer

Among the changes for deer firearms this fall was the elimination of antlerless deer permits in Carroll County and parts of Frederick and Washington counties.

Antlerless permits will still be required in Zone 1 of Frederick and Zone 2 of Washington counties and all of Allegany and Garrett counties.

Allocation of antlerless permits in those counties will be as follows:

Garrett County -- Zone 1, 780; Zone 2, 1200.

Allegany County -- Zone 1, 900; Zone 2, 1100.

Washington County -- Zone 2, 800.

Frederick County -- Zone 1, 1200.

Permits will be distributed by lottery drawing. Applications for permits must be received by the state's Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Division office by 4:30 p.m., Oct. 15.

Applicants may apply for only one county or zone. Mail applications to Wildlife Division, Tawes State Office Building, 580 Taylor Ave., Annapolis, Md. 21401.

Lottery winners will be notified about two weeks before the start of deer firearms season on Nov. 28.

Bow hunting on Chincoteague

A requirement for the deer bow hunting season on Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is the completion of an International Bowhunter Education Course or an equivalent.

The refuge will offer the IBEC on Oct. 11 at 9 a.m. Interested students are asked to register before Oct. 9 and to bring their own bow and broadheads as well as lunch on the day of the course. For more information, write Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, P.O. Box 62, Chincoteague, Va. 23336.

Canada goose season

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has refused to extend Maryland's Canada goose season to Jan. 22. DNR had requested the two-day extension to avoid an overlap of deer firearms season and goose season.
