AACC women's volleyball team victorious in 3 weekend matches

The Anne Arundel Community College women's volleyball team won three matches on the road last weekend to improve its overall record to 7-3.

The Pioneers traveled to Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va., on Saturday and came home with a 15-9, 15-3, 15-2 victory.

Anne Arundel then visited Potomac State in Kaiser, W.Va., where it defeated the hosts, as well as Montgomery-Rockville.

The Pioneers downed Potomac State, 15-3, 15-6, before defeating the Knights, 15-0, 15-8.

Penni Woolford, a freshman from Queen Anne's High School, had 20 kills and eight service aces against Potomac State and finished the weekend with 13 aces.

Sophomore Josie Boddy (Arundel) had 15 kills and, along with teammate Marlene Oltman, "did a great job running the defense," said Anne Arundel assistant coach Betty Hession.

The Pioneers will play their first league match at 5 p.m. today at Frederick Community College.
