Samuel W. Serio Training director

Samuel W. Serio, who devoted his leisure time to many recreational and benevolent organizations, died Sept. 9 of cardiac arrest at Howard County General Hospital. He was 60.

Services took place Sept. 12.

Mr. Serio, who lived in the 3100 block of Hearthstone Road in Ellicott City, was co-founder of the Howard County Youth Football League. He helped establish the Mount Hebron High School Sports Program.

He was also active in the Jaycees, Optimist, Junior Achievement and Little League Baseball.

For 34 years, Mr. Serio worked for the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. as a director of training.

Born in Baltimore, he graduated from Polytechnic Institute in 1950. He later graduated from the University of Baltimore.

From 1952 to 1956, he served in the Far East as a member of the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, the former Pat Cascie; two sons, Franklin T. Serio and Stephen W. Serio; a sister, Marie Dawson; and a granddaughter, Ashley Serio.

The family has suggested memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 17025, Baltimore, Md. 21203.
