Annapolis woman shot in argument

A 38-year-old Annapolis woman was in good condition Friday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center after she was shot in the head and body Thursday night.

Investigators said Marilyn Smith, of the 1200 block of Creek Drive, was having an argument with her live-in boyfriend during the evening when he took out a handgun and fired several shots at her.

As her boyfriend was firing, Ms. Smith ran out of the house to a neighbor, who called police.

Police charged Melvin Eugene Powell, 52, with one count of attempted murder, one count of assault with intent to murder and a handgun violation.

Police arrest 4 on cocaine charges

County police arrested four men investigators say sold crack-cocaine to undercover police officers Thursday night.

Clifford Thompson Jr., 27, of no fixed address; John Tyrone Neal, 32, of the 200 block of Hilltop Lane in Annapolis; Vernon Clinton Brewer, 31, of no fixed address; and Anthony Lionel Moulden, 25, of the first block of Carver St. in Annapolis, were all charged with distribution of crack cocaine, police said.

Investigators said the arrests were the result of a crackdown on open-air drug markets in the Annapolis area.

Glen Burnie woman raped and robbed

A 32-year-old woman told police that she was raped and robbed early Friday morning as she walked home from a bar.

Police said officers were called to the 7000 block of Solley Road in Glen Burnie at 1:30 a.m. The woman told police she was walking home from a bar on Mountain Road when a man attacked her, stole her wallet with $35 in it and then raped her.

She described her attacker as a white man in his late 20s.

Severn man charged with robbery

A Severn man has been charged with robbery and battery after police said he sold crack cocaine to an undercover officer and then punched the officer in the face Thursday night.

Charles Richard Bull, 23, of the 1600 block of Circle Road, also was charged with attempting to distribute cocaine and assault.

According to the police report, an undercover detective bought some crack cocaine from three men in Meade Village at 9:20 p.m. When he took his money out of his pocket, the men began fighting with him.

Charges on the other two men are pending positive identification.

Liquor store robbed of cash

A man who claimed to have a gun robbed a Deale liquor store Thursday night, county police reported.

Police said a black man wearing a white sweat shirt, red shorts over black sweat pants and white tennis shoes walked into the Deale Liquors in the 5700 block of Deale-Churchton Road at 8:36 p.m. and demanded money.

The clerk complied and the man left the store.

A witness gave police a description of a woman who was apparently acting as a lookout and drove a red Volkswagen.

She is described as a black female, 115 pounds with short hair.
