Garden fair at Oatlands Plantation

September 20, 1992

The garden at Oatlands Plantation near Leesburg is said to be Virginia's premier historic garden. Next weekend it will be the site for the 12th annual Oatlands Garden Fair, with three days of garden-related activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A standard flower show will take place Friday and Saturday, along with a photo art show, hands-on demonstrations, landscaped doll houses, garden vendors, a working potter and spinner, and carriage driving exhibitions (Saturday only). Horticultural experts will also be there to answer gardening questions.

Family Day on Sunday offers activities for all ages -- a "Fantasy Garden," children's zoo, flower arranging classes, a storyteller, music, wood carving, and demonstrations by master gardeners. Lunch can be purchased each day. Admission is $10 on Friday and Saturday; $5 for adults, $3 for ages 7 to 12, and free for under 6 on Sunday. The fee also includes tours of the mansion and gardens. Oatlands is on U.S. Route 15, six miles south of Leesburg. Call (703) 777-3174.
