Chicago White Sox -- Purchased the contract of 1B Chris Cron from Triple-A Vancouver. Recalled P Brian Drahman and OF Shawn Jeter from Vancouver. Designated P Steve Wapnick for reassignment.

Cincinnati Reds -- Signed scouting director Julian Mock to a two-year contract extension.

Cleveland Indians -- Recalled P Denis Boucher and IB Reggie Jefferson from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Buffalo Bisons (Triple-A) -- Fired manager Marc Bombard.

Basketball

Denver Nuggets -- Announced the retirement of G Walter Davis.

Colleges

NCAA -- Announced that Cincinnati basketball C Corie Blount, who averaged 8.2 points and 6.3 rebounds last season, has used up his college eligibility.

Cal-Poly Pomona -- Named Kevin Patterson men's interim basketball coach.

Navy -- Named Mary McElroy, a 1987 graduate of the Naval Academy, assistant for NCAA compliance; named Dan Lyons, a 1981 Naval Academy graduate, assistant heavyweight crew coach; and named Fred Quartlebaum, a 1989 graduate of Fordham, an assistant basketball coach.

Football

NFL -- Announced that the World League would suspend play for the 1993 season. Fined Los Angeles Raiders LB Winston Moss $2,500 for a flagrant foul against Denver Broncos QB John Elway in a game Sept. 6. Moss pushed Elway hard after he was already out of bounds.

Atlanta Falcons -- Placed LB Eric Fairs on IR. Signed DB Charles Washington.

Pittsburgh Steelers -- Released WR Louis Lipps.

San Francisco 49ers -- Signed TE Chris Dressel.

Washington Redskins -- Signed CB Sidney Johnson.

CFL -- Fined Toronto KR Raghib Ismail $10,000 for kicking an opponent in a game Sept. 13 against Calgary. Five other participants in the ensuing fight were fined a total of $1,850. Ismail chose a donation to the Special Olympics chapter in Ontario as his penalty.

Hockey

Boston Bruins -- Announced that former All-Star F Cam Neely had an arthroscopy on his left knee that will set his rehabilitation back two or three days.

Buffalo Sabres -- Announced that D Ken Sutton will be lost for at least two months with a fractured ankle. In 64 games last year, Sutton had two goals and 18 assists last season.

Chicago Blackhawks -- Signed Sergei Krivokrasov, first-round pick in the 1992 entry draft, signed a four-year, $900,000 contract.

Edmonton Oilers -- Returned F Vegar Barlie to Lillehammer of the Norwegian National League. Released G Mark Dawkins.

Minnesota North Stars -- Sent D Jeff Bes to OHL Guelph.

Washington Capitals -- Assigned RW Martin Gendron, RW Brian Stagg, RW Jeff Jubenville, LW B. J. MacPherson and D Mark Matler to their junior squads. Released C Alex Hicks and D Allan Cox.

U.S. Soccer -- Named Jay Hoffman and Glenn Myernick coaching coordinators.

Volleyball

Women's Professional Volleyball Association -- Announced the resignation of Roxana Vargas as executive director.
