Crash kills Howard man

September 18, 1992

A 39-year-old Ellicott City man was killed last night when the pickup truck he was driving crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer on westbound Interstate 70 in Woodlawn.

Trooper Victoria Harrison, of the Golden Ring Barracks, said the victim, Jeffrey Thomas Allen, of the 3200 block of Normandy Woods Drive, was driving the pickup west in the slow lane just west of Interstate 695 at 11 p.m. when he failed to reduce speed and crashed into the tractor-trailer.

Trooper Harrison said Baltimore County firefighters had to free the victim's body from the crushed cab of the pickup.

Mr. Allen was pronounced dead at the scene. He had not been wearing a seat belt, police said.

The tractor-trailer, which was going about 45 mph, was driven by Daniel Williams, 54, of Irwin, Pa. He was not injured.
