Parolee sought in woman's slaying

September 15, 1992

A man recently paroled for murder is being sought by polic in the stabbing death of a Hollander Ridge woman.

Leonard Harris, 32, is charged in a warrant with first-degree murder in the slaying of Sheila Venable, 24, of the 2100 block of Odell Ave.

Officials say they think that Ms. Venable was killed in her home Friday, then wrapped in a sheet and taken to a trash bin across the street from the housing complex.

The partially clad body was found next to the trash bin about 6:50 a.m. Friday.

Police said Harris had been living with Ms. Venable but the two were not romantically involved.

Harris also is being sought on a federal warrant charging him with violating his parole for a murder conviction in the 1986 shooting of a cabdriver in Washington, police said. Police said they don't know how long he served before he was paroled.

Police said they failed to find Harris at various haunts in Baltimore and Washington.
